Systems Thinking - Jonah
Many organizations and managers deal with problems in isolation and
subsequently end up dealing with symptoms. Students will learn that
focusing in isolation results in:
a lack of the bigger picture emerging from proposed interventions
dealing with symptoms rather than root causes
improvements not delivering according to expectations
too many initiatives on the table and nothing being achieved.
The systems thinking course shows the student how to accelerate the
improvement process throughout an organization. Participants will discover
the importance of strategic-holistic solutions, and applications: Critical
Chain, DBR, Metrics, Replenishment, and Human Behavior.
TOC
Performance Metrics

support a process of continuous Improvement using the logistical solutions

of the fundamentals of both managerial and financial accounting and
the underlying economic principles. They will compare and contrast the
differences between tradition cost thinking and Throughput Accounting.
Students learn why the correct metrics are essential to drive and maintain
improvements in a system.

and discuss the best methods of scheduling multi-projects. They will
also learn to identify the critical chain and its length in single and
multiple-project networks. They will learn the differences between Theory
of Constraints’ Critical Chain and traditional project management
methodologies. Students will be given sufficient knowledge and tools
to successfully practice Critical Chain application where needed in
organizations.
TOC
Strategy and Tactics
As a firm integrates across independent business units, it is wise to
develop a Throughput Operating Strategy that will benefit every member
of the organization and the chain. In the past, such a strategy was
left to chance or encouraged with barbed jabs at senior management.
But, with a full understanding and the correct exposure, whole management
teams can implement correct TOC base strategy quickly. Tools are available
to assist the TOC expert.
